College and certifications don’t prep you at all for the realities of personal training. Here’s what surprised me!
Working with athletes! (Athletes don’t pay)
Stretching/Mobility/ Foam Rolling/ Movement Screen (Science is iffy, at best!)
Correct biomechanics (Everyone moves different, has different anthropometrics and, once more, science is iffy!)
Linear Periodization/ Periodization in general (There’s a craze of novelty within the client population regarding ‘functional movement’ and the like. They want variety! Look at crossfits popularity)
100% adherence and no balking at programming
People come to me for my training expertise, nope! Personal training is a personality based business. They buy YOU.
A more collaborative environment between specialists - hard to come by!
