Questions from the Class - What are things you anticipated on doing but happen very rarely? CSUMB


College and certifications don’t prep you at all for the realities of personal training. Here’s what surprised me!


  1. Working with athletes! (Athletes don’t pay)

  2. Stretching/Mobility/ Foam Rolling/ Movement Screen (Science is iffy, at best!)

  3. Correct biomechanics (Everyone moves different, has different anthropometrics and, once more, science is iffy!)

  4. Linear Periodization/ Periodization in general (There’s a craze of novelty within the client population regarding ‘functional movement’ and the like. They want variety! Look at crossfits popularity)

  5. 100% adherence and no balking at programming

  6. People come to me for my training expertise, nope! Personal training is a personality based business. They buy YOU.

  7. A more collaborative environment between specialists - hard to come by!
